AAF Women’s Philanthropy Fund solicits letters of intent
Amarillo, Texas – The Amarillo Area Foundation, Women’s Philanthropy Fund invites Letters of Intent from nonprofit organizations within the 26-counties of the Texas Panhandle to support programs or projects that support self-sufficiency of women, or address health or safety issues specific to women/children. Letters of Intent are due to the Foundation office no later than March 8, 2010. They should not exceed three pages in length, and should describe the project, the cost and timeframe, as well as the amount of grant support anticipated. A full proposal may be requested at a later date.
Eligible organizations and programs will address one or more of the following focus areas in a manner that creates impact, shows innovation, and involves others in a collaborative manner. Specifically, such organizations and programs should address:
• Self-sufficiency: Programs that provide women with the skills and resources to be economically independent and self-sufficient. Examples of such programs may include but are not limited to:
- Access to emergency shelter or affordable housing;
- Access to affordable, quality day care and after school programs for children;
- Prevention of or assistance in overcoming homelessness, or poverty;
- Transportation assistance;
- Education and training programs targeted toward job skills, budgeting and money management, parenting skills, etc.
• Health and Safety: Programs that support the health and well-being of women and children and allow them to live in homes and communities without fear of violence. Examples of such programs may include but are not limited to:
- Healthcare-related education and awareness programs;
- Access to preventive medical screenings;
- Low or no-cost medical services for uninsured or medically needy women and children;
- Programs that instill leadership and build esteem in women/children.
Agencies whose project best fits the funding priorities of the Women’s Philanthropy Fund will be invited to submit a full proposal, which would then be due June 1, 2010. Nonprofit (501c3) organizations and certain public nonprofit agencies throughout the 26-county area are eligible to submit a Letter of Intent. Established in 2008 as a Donor Advised Fund, the Amarillo Area Foundation Women’s Philanthropy Fund is a donor-driven pooled fund, established to address the needs of women and children in the Texas Panhandle through impactful grants. The donors are philanthropically motivated women, united by a powerful desire to address emerging issues facing our region and women and children in all areas of life.
The fund will focus on programs or projects assessed to have the highest possibility of having a direct impact on the well-being of women and children in the Texas Panhandle. The purpose of the fund is to:
• Unite, serve, and empower women to become leaders in philanthropy;
• Enable contributors to have more direction and involvement in how their dollars are spent;
• Achieve greater impact by drawing on the collective wisdom of our donors;
• Demonstrate the effect of how pooled donations can yield large scale, targeted grants;
• Enable innovative and compelling programs and projects that might otherwise not be possible;
• Research areas of need and strategically allocate funds to achieve the greatest impact;
• Address education, awareness, and participation in philanthropy.
