The Deaf Smith Commissioners Court Monday authorized Library Director Rebecca Walls to continue with her attempts to secure a $100,000 grant for upgrades to the library, but insisted on initiating a formal bid process to ascertain an accurate estimate for the work.

The candidate fields are now set for the upcoming May 8 election that will determine the future makeup of both the Hereford City Commission and the Deaf Smith County Hospital Board.

A “People’s Choice” award was garnered by a team from the Hereford High School Automotive Class at the Annual Make-A-Wish Car Show in Amarillo this past weekend. There were 317 entries in the weekend show. The HHS entry was a restored 1951 Chevy pickup. The PU was a year-long project built from the ground up using a ’94 Chevy chassis and ’51 Chevy body. Class instructors were Jeff Milam and Ernest Cabezuela. Sponsor for the project was Jeff Torbert State Farm Insurance. Shown with their award, l-r, Juan Escobedo, Alfonzo Miranda, Aldo Delgado, Francisco Ramos, Carlos Salazar, Israel Marquez, Nathan Subealdea and Jorge Hernandez.
